Beautiful Paris

Beautiful ParisParis is the vacation destination of choice for those who appreciate all aspects of art. The city is world renowned for it’s incredible ability to inspire artists of all nationalities. Artists such as Toulouse Lautrec found incredible inspiration, towards the end of the eighteenth century, in the decadent aspects of Paris theatrical life and left us with the distinctive masterpieces which elegantly display the life of the Moulin Rouge in publicity posters of the day.

Today Paris remains a popular place for all manner of artists with many congregating around the area of Montmartre where many artists have studios, displaying their work in the street and many offering the opportunity to have your portrait painted. Salvador Dalí famously had a studio in Montmartre, although he was born in Spain (1904) he had been influenced by a local artist who often traveled to Paris and in 1926 he paid his first visit. During this visit Dalí met a great many artists, including Pablo Picasso who proved to be extremely influential. Today the Montmartre area of Paris may be the home to a future master so spend some time the and you may find yourself making a purchase that later proves to be a most wise decision.

For those who prefer to appreciate art from a distance rather than create it themselves, Paris is one of the finest places in the world to experience art and culture. Of course the most well known art museum in the world is the Louvre which gets many millions of visitors each year. Of course a great many wish to view Leonardo Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa but there is a truly massive selection of exhibits which include such things as the Venus de Milo and many works by Pablo Picasso.

In stark contrast to the world of the historical masters the Centre Georges Pompidou is a spectacularly modernistic building which is home to the Musée National d’Art Moderne (more commonly referred to as simply “the Pompidou Centre”). As well as the modern art museum/gallery the Pompidou Center is also home to a huge public library called the “Bibliothèque publique d’information”. The most outstanding aspect of the place is the architecture which, when unveiled in the late 1970′s it created a certain amount of outrage (both in Paris and also worldwide) because of it’s bold, and rather confusing design.

If you are planning to take a Paris vacation soon, and you are interested in the artistic elements of the city, why not choose a small Paris hotel near Montmartre where you can indulge your artistic desires through the day and relax in one of the many bars, restaurants and cafe’s in the evenings. Alternatively I find that I enjoy staying in one of the many streets which lead up to the Sacré-Coeur Basilica which is within easy reach of many of the city’s tourist attractions while remaining slightly away from the busier areas.
