Barcelona As A Weekend Break Destination

Author: Nosfer | Filed under: Spain

BarcelonaBarcelona is one of those cities where you can enjoy a 10 day vacation or holiday, but also where you can also go for just a long weekend. This coastal city offers easy access to a number of facilities, a lengthy beach and plenty of interesting architecture and sites. So how should you go about finding an area and place to stay in Barcelona; what is a good area to stay in and what kinds of things can you do in 3 days in the city of Barcelona, Spain?

The amazing thing about Barcelona as a city is that you do not need to choose between staying in the beach area or staying in the centre and tourist areas. In Barcelona you can do both. An area such as La Rambla in Barcelona is one of the main tourist streets and every day it is lively with street performers, vendors and on the side of the street, cafes and restaurants. La Rambla boasts many hotels and apartment rentals and this can be the ideal area to stay if you really want to be in the middle of where things are happening. Nearby the area of Barri Gotic, it can be a little quieter than La Rambla but it is still sat amongst the central and lively areas. Both Barri Gotic and La Rambla are also perfectly situated so that you can easily walk and reach the marina and the beach within roughly 15 minutes walk (all depending on how fast you can walk of course).

In terms of things to do, you will be spoilt for choice! This is the city where the architect Gaudi did most of his finest work and a trip to the Sagrada Familia church, is a must. There are also many other Gaudi designed buildings across Barcelona, in addition to Guell Park.

Another thing well worth doing is to attend an FC Barcelona football game at the Nou Camp Stadium. It is also possible to do a stadium tour of the Nou Camp and this tour is also well worth doing. If you are into sports then you might also want to consider trying your hand at sailing, water-skiing, dragon boat racing, hot air ballooning or the city helicopter tour ride. There is plenty to do and see in this coastal city.

If you are flying in from the U.K. then the budget airlines also fly into Barcelona these days, so it may be worth checking Easyjet and Ryanair flight costs, in addition to British Airways and Iberia. Read more about Barcelona team building and corporate events.
