The Statue of Liberty
The Statue of Liberty is one of the most popular of all New York attractions and no trip to the Big Apple is complete without a visit to this iconic structure.
The Statue of Liberty, officially called Liberty Enlightening the World, was constructed from bronze and was given to the United States by France in 1885 as a symbol of freedom and to mark the centenary of America’s Declaration of Independence.
Standing at Liberty Island, in the mouth of the Hudson River in the New York Harbor, it welcomes visitors as it once did for the thousands of immigrants who arrived in New York by boat. 1. The Pyramids at Giza. For most of human history the Great Pyramid (Khufu’s Pyramid – 2589-2566 B.C.) was the highest human structure at 230 meters. It is not the height alone that impressive but the size containing over 2 million blocks of stone. I pity the poor workers who build it but the end result has lasted the aeon’s. Proof of its is size is the fact that despite having thousands of blocks removed to build other buildings over the ages it appears little diminished in size. Apart from the many other pyramids also on the field the Sphinx is nearby. Thought to be older than the pyramids on the Giza Plateau research on the Sphinx has raised more questions than answers. Athens is one of the most beautiful central European cities. The Greece capital has an incredible past; being one of the oldest cities in the world Athens is the birthplace of the democracy. Visiting this city is an incredible experience. Just walking the streets is a unique experience because Athens architecture combines many styles from the earliest in the history to the newest.
The Acropolis of Athens including the Parthenon, the Erectheion, and the Temple of Athena Nike is certainly the cities landmark and it is definitely worth visiting. These are architectural masterpieces and the most important ancient Greek monuments. If you want to make a complete tour of the city, you should take the funicular railway. Bargello
This is a fabulous art museum that was once used as a prison. Lots of Renaissance era art here.
Battistero
It’s a Baptistery that’s in the shape of an octagon. The Battistero is a great example of Roman style.
Campanile
Designed by Giotto, this marble gothic bell tower is magnificent. Prepare to walk though. There are just over 400 steps.
Duomo
The Duomo was finished in 1436 and it’s one fantastic cathedral. Aside from gazing at this magnificent structure, you can also attend a mass here. Read the rest of this entry »
